If you need to transfer schools, your college student health insurance coverage moves with you. Student Select is not tied to any one school. There's no need to change coverage or re-apply. In fact, you're covered when traveling anywhere in the United States, its possessions or Canada.
With college student health insurance from Assurant, you're covered year-round, not just during the school term. And, if for some reason, you have to leave school, Student Select stays with you for the remainder of the policy year... and then it's guaranteed renewable.
Student Select guarantees renewability. Whereas most college plans only cover you until you graduate or very shortly thereafter, Assurant's college student health insurance can be renewed as long as it's needed . . . and, of course, as long as you pay the premiums.
Eligibility Requirements
Student Select is available to any eligible student. Any full-time college student*(taking nine or more college credits), attending a state accredited college or university, under the age of 30 and is able to answer "NO" to the medical questions on the application, is eligible for Assurantýs college student health insurance.
You must be a full-time student for a minimum of 31 days following the effective date of your policy.
How the college student health insurance plan works
The Student Select plan is simple, affordable and easy to obtain. You choose the plan that best meets your needs and budget.
- $1 Million Lifetime
- $100,000 per illness/injury
Deductible Options: $250, $500, $1,000, and $2,500
Coinsurance (also referred to as Rate of Payment): 80/20 to $10,000
Benefits are paid as follows:
First- You pay your calendar year deductible.
Then-Once your deductible is satisfied, Assurant Health pays 80% of the next $10,000 of covered expenses.
Thereafter-Assurant Health pays 100% of your remaining covered expenses up to $100,000 for each illness or injury. Your total plan maximum is $1 million.
Preauthorization
If you are insured under a college student health insurance policy, you must obtain authorization for all hospital admissions, outpatient surgeries and certain other services. The number to call for Student Select preauthorization is 800-454-5105. The Student Select identification card, which is attached to the insurance contract you will receive, also lists the preauthorization phone number.
Payment Options
You can pay for your college student health insurance plan on an annual or semi-annual basis. We offer two convenient payment methods of credit card (Visa/MasterCard) or personal check. Both the annual and semi-annual payment options are available with the credit card payment method.
Premium Refunds
If you are not 100% satisfied with the plan, you can return the contract within 10 days of delivery for a refund. If a cancellation request is received after the 10 day free look, a prorated refund will be provided as described in the contract.
